Rooms & Bars

We have three bars, a function room and a snooker hall.

Hire a Room

If you are looking for the perfect venue for an event, a celebration, a meeting or a club, The Loughton Club might just be the perfect place for you.

The Front Bar

The Front Bar is traditionally where members hang out after a hard day’s work and enjoy a pint or two before heading home for dinner.  Lively banter breaks out periodically and the quality of pool playing varies from outright rubbish to really very good indeed.

This is the bar of choice for many long-standing members and whilst many sports are shown on the telly it is also the natural home of horseracing, particularly on a Saturday afternoon.  In the absence of a demand for sport, there will normally be a music channel on, sometimes with the sound muted so the Jukebox can take priority.  There is also a dartboard but in recent years the dart team has tended to frequent the middle bar for matches (see below).

The Middle Bar

The Middle Bar is generally a bit quieter than the Front Bar other than on Saturday nights when there is often a singer or disco (unless alternative entertainment for members is on in the Function Room). It’s a great room to watch the sport on TV or just meet up with friends for a drink and a chat. It’s been decorated in bright colours, is home to Bingo on a Thursday evening and is sometimes hired out during the day for anything from charity gatherings to medical checks or wakes. It has a capacity of around 60 people.

The Upstairs Bar

Currently without a functioning bar the “upstairs bar” is a potentially misleading name for this room, but we have plans to restore its drink serving capacity.

Often hired for smaller functions and sometimes used when a third sport is wanted on the telly, this room now has its own juke box, pinball machine, retro arcade games machine and table football.  The upstairs bar is home to the Loughton Folk Club on a Thursday evening and is popular with some of our younger members on a Saturday night.

The Function Room

By day the Function Room (or Main Hall) is home to various clubs such as Zumba, Karate and other fitness and toddler groups.  In the evening (or at least certain evenings) it becomes Loughton’s premier entertainment venue with a capacity of 150, a fully integrated surround sound system and a gigantic screen for whatever you may wish to see, including Sky and BT sports.  The function room also has a stage for singers, bands etc, a lovely wooden floor and a newly refurbished bar.

This is where many private functions are held (birthday parties, engagements, anniversaries etc) and is popular for small children’s parties as it can house two or three inflatable bouncy castle type things.  It was a great place for lots of our members to watch the Euro 2020 football tournament (held in 2021) and we hope to show more live football and other sports in the Hall where there is demand for this and there is nothing else going on there.

The Snooker Hall

Like the Function Room, the snooker hall has a lovely wooden floor, recently restored to its original finish.  There are 4 full-size snooker tables which can be booked by members; there is no booking fee but the lights for each table work out at £6 per hour using the coin-operated wall-mounted machines.  Members may only play with other members at snooker, although we will let a guest play on a one-off basis in order to help them decide whether to join.
